The PYD terrorist militia persists in recruiting children in the territories under its control, in defiance of the action plan signed at the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2019. The plan called upon this militia to cease the recruitment of children.
According to a recent report by Anadolu Agency, the terrorist group is resorting to the abduction of school-age children from their families in northeastern Syria, forcibly enlisting them into its ranks. Numerous media outlets have depicted scenes of child soldiers within the PYD militia, including those affiliated with the PYD.
The Association of Independent Syrian Kurds disclosed that the PYD militia recruited 18 children in July of the previous year, aged between 14 and 17 years. The recruitment took place as follows: 6 children in Al-Hasakah city, 7 in Qamishli, and 5 in Aleppo province.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency on August 3, Sabah Antar, a father, recounted the details of his daughter’s abduction by the terrorist group two years ago. He revealed that his daughter was taken at the age of 16, merely four days after attending a training course at a school in Qamishli. Despite filing complaints, staging protests outside United Nations offices, and raising his voice, he remained unable to locate his daughter.
On January 16, 2020, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights released a report containing information about child recruitment in Syria. The report stated that 12-year-old boys and girls were recruited from a camp for displaced people in northeastern Syria by the PYD militia.
In the United Nations report for the year 2022 titled “Children in Conflict Areas,” it revealed that more than 1,200 children had been recruited by the PYD militia.
