The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) reported that at least 72 civilians lost their lives in Syria in November, including 14 children and 7 women. The SNHR highlighted a deadly attack by Assad regime forces in the village of Kokfin in the Idlib countryside, resulting in the tragic deaths of 10 civilians from a single family, including 7 children and a woman.
In its Friday-issued report, the network disclosed that during the past month, the Assad regime was responsible for the deaths of 32 civilians, including 10 children and 4 women. Additionally, the PYD terrorist militia claimed the lives of 12 civilians, including 2 children. The report further documented that 28 civilians, including 2 children and 3 women, fell victim to other parties. The report also documented the killing of a medical professional and a media worker by Assad regime forces.
Deir Ezzor province led in casualties among the provinces, accounting for 25% of the total death toll recorded in November. Idlib followed closely with an approximate 22% rate, with most victims falling at the hands of regime forces, while Daraa accounted for about 19% of the total death toll.
The report underscored the persistent occurrence of civilian casualties resulting from landmines across various regions of Syria. It documented the deaths of 3 civilians, including a child and a woman in November, bringing the total number of landmine-related victims since the beginning of 2023 to 104 civilians, including 26 children and 9 women.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) strongly condemned the recurrent targeting of civilians by Assad’s forces, deeming it a heinous crime demanding a resolute international stance to ensure accountability for the ongoing war crimes against the Syrian people.
The SOC emphasized that the Assad regime persists in its criminal approach, disregarding international laws and norms that safeguard civilian lives. It highlighted the regime’s exploitation of international inaction, the absence of deterrent measures, and the lack of international will to implement legal mechanisms for accountability, allowing it to perpetuate horrific crimes against innocent Syrians.
