Anti-regime activists in Suwayda province have issued a statement outlining the primary demands of their ongoing popular uprising, which has persisted for 25 days. On Thursday, a woman in Karama Square delivered the statement on behalf of the protesters.
The statement emphasized the determination to continue the demonstrations until the Assad regime’s departure, the imperative need for a political transition in line with UN Resolution 2254, the activation of Resolution 2118, the referral of individuals responsible for war crimes against the Syrian people to the International Criminal Court, and the release of detainees.
During the demonstrations, participants displayed banners with various messages, including: “We reject drug dealers and Captagon factories. No to drug dealers. Bashar, leave with Iran and Russia. The shedding of Syrian blood by Syrians is prohibited. Our revolution is peaceful, pursuing freedom, dignity, and justice.”
It is worth noting that local residents closed two Baath Party branches in Al-Mazraa and Al-Ghariya towns in Suwayda province yesterday, following a shooting incident involving protesters outside the Baath Party branch headquarters. In response, the people decided to repurpose the Al-Ghariya Baath Party branch building into a kindergarten, named “Freedom.”
