The Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Hakim Bashar, held a meeting with the representative of the Kurdish National Council in Erbil, located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, on Sunday.
During the meeting, Bashar provided a succinct overview of the latest political developments in Syria, as well as regional and international dynamics, including updates on the ongoing political process.
Bashar addressed the alarming surge in terrorist activities perpetrated by armed groups associated with the PYD militia. He highlighted recent incidents where these groups attacked several offices belonging to the Kurdish National Council. The most recent incident occurred in the town of Al-Malikiyah (Derik), where the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria was torched.
Expressing vehement condemnation, Bashar denounced these criminal acts aimed at instigating fear and tension among the populace. He urged relevant countries to exert pressure on the PYD militia to cease such terrorist actions. Additionally, he called upon the international coalition to designate the Juanin Shurker organization as a terrorist entity.
Bashar underscored the significance of the strategic relationship between the Kurdish National Council and the SOC. He emphasized the imperative of fostering trust-building measures between Kurds and other ethnic groups, considering it a top priority. Furthermore, he advocated for nurturing relationships with neighboring countries with the aim of promoting peace and stability in Syria and the surrounding region.
In closing remarks, after addressing inquiries from the audience, Bashar stressed the necessity for Kurds to forge trust-building initiatives and uphold their affiliation with the Syrian revolution and opposition forces across diverse components. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining positive relations with neighboring countries.
