‘Doctors of the World’ Slams Int’l Silence over Ongoing Atrocities against Syrian Civilians

The medical humanitarian organization ‘Doctors of the World’ criticized the silence of the international community over the atrocities being committed by the Assad regime and their Iranian and Russian allies against civilians in Syria.

In a statement released on Thursday, Doctors of the World said that as a humanitarian organization it cannot accept the silence of the international community over the unbearable suffering civilians in Syria are going through. The organization pointed out that over 700 medical workers have so far been killed in Syria.

Meanwhile, civilians trapped in besieged eastern Aleppo continue to appeal to the international community for opening humanitarian corridors to evacuate the sick and wounded amid constant artillery and aerial bombardment by the Assad regime and Russian forces.

Members of the organization held a sit-in in the French capital Paris to protest against the Assad regime’s attacks on civilians in Aleppo, calling for the protection of hospitals and medical facilities as well as medical workers and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population in the embattled city.

More than 800 people have been killed and up to 3,500 wounded in eastern Aleppo in the past 26 days, while the remaining trapped civilians are waiting for an effective death sentence, the president of Aleppo local council said on Thursday.

“Today 150,000 people are threatened with extermination. We are calling for a halt to the bombing and guarantees of safe passage of all,” Brita Haji Hassan said during a trip to Geneva.

The UN General Assembly is set to vote Friday on a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Syria, a halt to all indiscriminate attacks on civilians, and access for humanitarian aid.

The resolution, drafted by Canada with the support of 70 countries, is part of the 193-nation assembly’s attempt to break the deadlock over Syria at the Security Council.

Russia and China this week vetoed a draft Security Council resolution calling for a seven-day ceasefire in Aleppo.

The UNGA’s draft resolution will call for full compliance with international humanitarian law and international law as well as full and immediate implementation of UN Security Council resolutions. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office + Agencies)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
