The European Commission said that “reports reaching us from Aleppo, Da’ra and other places across Syria on an intensification of fighting triggering new mass displacements are extremely worrying.”
In a statement released yesterday, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, stressed the need for stopping of the fighting, lifting of all sieges and finding a political solution in Syria.
Stylianides appealed to “all parties to the conflict to show restraint and ensure the protection of the people of Syria.” He added that “more than 15,000 newly-displaced have fled Aleppo to the border with Turkey…In addition; humanitarian operations have been severely hampered by the military operations, with people being cut off from life-saving food and medical supplies.”
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Thursday that tens of thousands of Syrians are moving towards the Turkish border from the Syrian city of Aleppo due to increased aerial bombardment.
At a fundraising conference in London, Davutoglu said that “sixty to seventy thousand people in the camps in north Aleppo are moving towards Turkey. My mind is not now in London, but in our border — how to relocate these new people coming from Syria?” he added. “Three hundred thousand people living in Aleppo are ready to move towards Turkey,” Davutoglu said.
