A female Swedish activist said that the militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) had committed war crimes against Assyrians in Syria. She said that “many journalists and activists are blind and deaf in front of the truth as they don’t want to see behind the scene.”
The Anadolu news agency quoted Swedish-Syrian Assyrian activist Caroline Envia Khamo as saying that hat the PYD militia “were committing arbitrary killings, and confiscating property and lands of the Assyrians.”
In an article she wrote for the country’s national broadcaster SVT in Stockholm, Khamo said that “many of our people, like the Assyrian leader David Jendo who questioned the method of the YPG, were killed and tortured after being kidnapped.”
Khamo noted that various international organizations had reported on demographic changes in the region perpetrated by the YPG/PYD, touching upon a report on Assyrians under YPG/PYD rule.
Khamo recounted how Assyrian schools that did not accept the PYD-developed education system were attacked and harassed.
“Many attacks on Assyrians were revealed [in the report]. Unfortunately, many politicians and journalists in Sweden didn’t see these reports and fell under the fake spell of those who promote the YPG\PYD,” she added.
The Syrian Coalition earlier said that the PYD militia continued to commit violations against civilians provoking a wave of mass protests in a number of PYD-held areas.
The Coalition stressed the importance of ending support for the PYD militia and the launch of an international investigation into the PYD violations and crimes and holding those responsible accountable. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Anadolu Agency)
