The Future Movement’s parliamentary bloc led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri warned of repeated attempts to trap Lebanon into the Iranian-Syrian alliance through communicating with the regime outside national political agreements.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the bloc said that it considers this behavior as an attempt to push Lebanon into the Iranian-Syrian axis under various pretexts. It reaffirmed total rejection of dragging Lebanon into this axis.
“They are trying to justify this step through several excuses, such as revealing the fate of the kidnapped soldiers, which proved to be false, and accelerating the return of Syrian refugees to Syria,” the bloc added. It noted that terrible crimes committed by the Assad regime against the Syrian people were preventing refugees from returning home.
The bloc went on to say that the working paper submitted by the government to the Brussels’ Donors Conference stipulated the commitment of the Lebanese government to the international laws sponsoring the return of displaced Syrians to their country.
The bloc stressed that the Assad regime and its partners in the crimes against the Syrian people and in displacing them from their homeland bear full responsibility for the tragedy of Syrian civilians and their displacement within and outside Syria.
The bloc concluded its remarks by stressing that the international community, especially the major players in Syria, bear part of the responsibility for the displacement of the Syrian people inside their country and abroad. It noted that the proposed safe areas in Syria are the ones which should be guaranteed by the international community for the safe return of displaced people to their homes.
