The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) issued a statement calling on the international community to take immediate action to save Aleppo from deliberate and complete destruction by the Assad regime and its allies.
ISESCO called upon countries around the world, human rights organizations, religious and cultural leaders, and intellectual and media elites to explicitly condemn the parties involved in the destruction of Aleppo.
According to the statement, Aleppo is the capital of Islamic culture, because of its historical value, as well as because of the city’s scientific, cultural and archaeological heritage, adding that Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
“The world has not seen anything like what Aleppo has been exposed to; in particular, the mass destruction of humans and infrastructure, which is an unprecedented humanitarian, environmental and architectural disaster in modern history,” ISESCO said in the statement published on its website on Monday.
ISESCO added that Assad’s forces, the Russian Air Force, and the Iranian-backed militias bear direct responsibility for the destruction of Aleppo, in addition to ISIS whose actions help the regime achieve its goals.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday said that his country will step up aerial support for the Assad regime to prevent “terrorists” from taking control of Aleppo and its surroundings. (Source: Al-Jazeera)
