Russia has further stepped up support for the Assad regime in its war against the Syrian people, using the liberated areas in Syria as a test ground for its most advanced weaponry.
Igor Krylov, CEO of GNPP Region, a subsidiary of the Russian Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV) said that Russia began supplying its air forces with modern bombs manufactured by GNPP Region. The Russian air force has lately used the new bunker-buster bombs in attacks on civilian targets in areas outside the control of the Assad regime.
Krylov told reporters that the new 500-kilogram and 1,500-kilogram bombs are guided to objects by television or laser or by the Glonass satellite navigation system, adding that they successfully completed all trials and began supplying the bombs to the Russian air force.
According to the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the KAB-500 and KAB-1500 bombs were already used in the war in Syria, pointing out that these bombs were used to destroy underground targets.
According to military experts, the KAB-1500 bomb is capable of penetrating three meters of reinforced concrete or 20 meters of soil. A video has been recently published showing a Su-34 jet dropping a KAB-1500 bomb in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights earlier said that that since the start of its direct military intervention in Syria on September 30, 2015, Russia had killed no fewer than 6,187 civilians, including 1,771 children and 670 women. The Network said that it had recorded at least 939 Russian attacks on vital civilian centers, including 167 medical facilities, 140 mosques, and 55 public markets.
The monitoring group also said that the Russian forces launched at least 223 attacks with the use of cluster munitions and 122 attacks with the use of incendiary weapons.
