The Syrian community in Austria called on the Austrian Government to cut off economic relations with the Assad regime and to expel its ambassador to Vienna in a letter sent to the Austrian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The letter also called upon the Austrian government to support the resolution adopted by the Jordanian Parliament in 2013 which calls for launching an investigation into the Assad regime’s crimes and referring them to the International Criminal Court.
Badarat Farwati, assistant secretary-general of the Syrian Revolution’s Coordinating Committee in Austria, said that “Austria can support these demands considering its historic role in the Middle East.”
Farwati added that “besieging over 400,000 people in Madaya and other areas across Syria, the majority of them children, women and the elderly, represents a humanitarian disaster and a stain on the international community. Allowing aid convoys into the besieged areas is very important, but should not be an alternative for lifting the siege.”
Farwati concluded urging the international community, the European Union and all concerned international organizations to “assume their responsibilities towards the criminal starvation of innocent civilians as this constitutes a crime against humanity for which the Assad regime and the Hezbollah militia must be held accountable.” (Source: Anadolu Agency)
