In a statement on Thursday 15 August 2019, the Deputy Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria Crisis, Mark Cutts, condemned the series of airstrikes in the countryside of Idlib and Hama by which two humanitarian rescue workers were killed.
Rescue and humanitarian staffs endanger themselves everyday to help the besieged civilians in Idlib and Hama, Cutts said. He stressed that the number of casualties increases daily as a result of the “harsh campaign of air strikes by the government and its allies.”
He pointed out that the attack launched by Assad regime on Wednesday highlights the “horror that prevails” in the areas of de-escalation in northern Syria, pointing out that there are still three million civilians trapped, and humanitarian workers are still endangering their lives to help others, according to the statement.
Cutts called for a full respect and protection of medical and humanitarian personnel, their vehicles and their property, as well as hospitals and other medical facilities in accordance with international humanitarian law.
On Wednesday, the Syrian Civil Defense mourned one of its members who was killed by a double Russian airstrike when he was trying to rescue the wounded civilians from the medical point in Basika village in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Dr. Mohammed Mishnen, 29, and Fadi al-Omar, 34, an ambulance driver in Sams ambulance system were killed by a similar Russian airstrike on Hama countryside.
