The US State Department expressed concern about reports of violations of the truce agreement by regime forces.
The US State Department Spokesman Mark Toner on Wednesday said that the United States was “concerned about reports of Syrian regime tank and artillery attacks against civilians near Latakia, near Homs, and Hama, as well as around Damascus.”
Toner added that the United States “was looking into each of these allegations and each of these reports very closely, sharing them among other members of the ISSG, including Russia and Iran – Russia, rather – and strongly urging all parties to continue to practice restraint.”
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) on Wednesday said it had documented 52 violations of the UN-sponsored truce on its 4th day, March 1st
SNHR said that the Russian and regime forces were responsible for 19 violations in the form of continued military operations and airstrikes. The network added it recorded 32 more breaches in the form of arrests carried out by the Assad regime.
Toner declined to confirm reports about the regime’s use of chemical weapons, but said the United States is “aware of the reports.” He said that the US “condemns any use of chemical weapons. The OPCW’s fact-finding mission will investigate any and all credible allegations of CW use in Syria.” (Source: Agencies)
