US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called on the US President Donald Trump to stand up to the Assad regime’s deadly attacks on Syrian civilians and protect civilians in Idlib province.
In comments he posted on Twitter on Monday, Graham warned that a “massacre in the making and refugee turmoil to follow.”
“It’s time for the world to stand up to the Butcher of Damascus. Protect Idlib.”
In early April of 2018, Senator Graham said that US President Donald Trump was at a critical moment with regard to the situation in Syria after he warned Bashar al-Assad against the use chemical weapons.
If President Trump does not go through with his threats, the US will look weak in the eyes of Russia and Iran, Graham said. He urged the US president to show the kind of resolve that President Obama has not shown before.
Graham’s latest remarks came after the Assad regime and its Russian ally significantly expanded their brutal bombing campaign in Idlib and Hama provinces. Intense airstrikes are pummeling cities, towns and villages, targeting hospitals and civil defense centers and leaving hundreds of civilians dead and injured. The bombings have also forced more than 300,000 people out of their homes. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
