An official from the US Department of State said that that the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) will not participate in the upcoming Geneva talks, Anadolu Agency reported Monday.
The official who spoke on the condition of anonymity added that the group has not been invited to the peace talks scheduled to resume in Geneva next week. The official pointed out that the same groups that took part in the peace talks on January 29 will be joining the upcoming talks.
The UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura announced that peace talks are to be resumed on March 9. However, Mr. de Mistura’s spokesperson said earlier today the envoy plans to start substantive peace talks by March 14.
The opposition’s HNC said Russia was trying to disrupt the talks by attempting to invite a third party. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Anadolu)
