CNN news network revealed that Iran was sending suspicious military shipments to the Assad regime via air flights, adding that the shipments had continued even after the launch of missiles strikes on military positions of the Assad regime and the Iranian militias on April 13.
The United States has confirmed that the Assad regime still retains part of its chemical weapons cache as it has not ruled out the launch of new chemical weapons attacks by the Assad regime.
US intelligence is monitoring a series of cargo flights from Iran into Syria that the US suspects may be carrying weapons systems into Syria for potential use by Bashar al-Assad’s regime or Iranian forces, CNN has learned.
The flights involving Iran have caught the attention of US intelligence because they occurred in the days after the April 13 US airstrikes on Assad regime targets.
The Syrian Coalition earlier warned of the continued international community’s ignoring of Iran’s crimes in the region, especially in Syria. It also warmed of Iran’s expansionist project at the expense of the rest of the neighboring countries.
Iran is supporting the Assad regime with money, militias and military equipment, the Coalition said. It noted that this support might include materials for the manufacture of chemical weapons, calling on the international community and the US in particular to work effectively to combat the Iranian influence in the region.
These reports coincided with international efforts to refer the situation in Syria to the UN General Assembly. Western nations want to end the months-long paralysis at the United Nations over Syria by referring the issue of chemical weapons use to the entire UN general assembly, the Guardian newspaper reported on Tuesday. The Russia’s security council veto would not apply at the UN General Assembly. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
