President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, held a meeting with Fergus Eckersley, Political Coordinator at the United Kingdom’s mission to the United Nations in New York, to discuss the latest developments in Syria and proposals for advancing the political process and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The meeting, attended by Vice President Dima Moussa, primarily focused on the plight of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the dire conditions they face across various aspects. Discussions also touched upon the issue of Syrian detainees and political prisoners in Lebanese prisons, particularly Roumieh prison.
Al-Bahra presented a comprehensive paper detailing the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and proposed approaches to address the crisis, including practical steps to alleviate the mounting pressure on Syrian refugees.
Emphasizing the unsafe conditions in Syria for refugee return, Al-Bahra underscored the imperative for any repatriation to be voluntary, dignified, and secure in accordance with international standards.
