Hadi Al-Bahra, President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), expressed his sincere gratitude to donor countries at the Brussels Conference for their continued support to the Syrian people and their efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis affecting millions in Syria and refugee-hosting countries.
Al-Bahra expressed hope that the aid would reach its rightful beneficiaries, noting that the pledged aid have decreased compared to previous years and fall significantly short of meeting the actual humanitarian needs.
He highlighted that the commitment to fulfill pledges in previous years, combined with high inflation rates and pervasive corruption in aid management, particularly in regime-controlled areas as indicated by recent documented studies, forewarns of worsening humanitarian conditions in Syria to dangerous levels. This threatens the lives of millions and perpetuates instability in Syria and the region.
Al-Bahra reiterated that the root causes of the humanitarian crisis in Syria are fundamentally political. He emphasized that there is no sustainable humanitarian solution, and that the only viable and lasting solution is a political one based on UN resolutions, particularly resolutions 2254 and 2118.
