The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of innocent civilians killed in the bombardment by the Assad regime and its allies on the town of Sarmin on Monday, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.
Al-Bahra questioned how long it would take for the world to realize that the Assad regime’s continued targeting of civilians and its refusal to engage in the UN-sponsored political process means the continuation of killings and war crimes against civilians, destabilizing stability and peace in Syria and the region, and causing further crises.
He noted that while people were preparing breakfast, the Assad regime and its supporters rained rockets on Sarmin in the Idlib countryside, resulting in the death and injury of numerous innocent civilians due to deliberate targeting of the town’s market, neighborhoods, and a school.
Al-Bahra urged the international community to recognize its responsibilities towards Syria, emphasizing that every delay in achieving justice and holding war criminals accountable, and failure to find binding ways to advance the political process in accordance with UN Resolution 2254, results in more innocent bloodshed and displacement tragedies.
The Syrian Civil Defense reported that regime forces targeted Sarmin in the eastern countryside of Idlib with about 20 rockets, resulting in the death of a child and a woman and the injury of 10 civilians, including 5 children and 2 women, some of whom are severely injured.
The Civil Defense highlighted that the attack targeted residential neighborhoods, the public market, the Abdo Salama School, and nearby health facilities in the town. In addition to the casualties, the attack caused significant damage to civilian homes, property, and the Abdo Salama School.
