Abdul Majid Barakat, Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), has called on Lebanese authorities to release Syrian detainees held in their custody following the fall of the Assad regime.
In a press statement, Barakat noted that Lebanese authorities have been detaining hundreds of Syrians for years in Roumieh Prison due to their opposition to the Assad regime. He added that it is time to release them, given the harsh conditions they have endured.
Barakat emphasized that, following the fall of the Assad regime, Syria aims to foster good relations with its neighbors, particularly Lebanon. He pointed out that the families of the detainees eagerly await the release of their loved ones, similar to other detainees who have been freed from the prisons of the Assad regime.
