Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, congratulated Syrian boxer Haider Wardeh on winning the German Lorch Fightnight championship after his victory over German boxer Yassin Koulali on May 11.
Barakat conveyed his congratulations in a video call with Wardeh, expressing his joy at seeing the flag of the Syrian revolution displayed on the podium. He emphasized that Wardah not only represents Syria and the Syrian revolution but also carries a noble message, using sports to highlight the cause of the Syrian people to German society and the world.
Barakat elaborated on the SOC’s efforts to support sports, cultural, and artistic activities, focusing on increasing interest in sports in liberated areas and abroad. These efforts aim to improve sports performance in local and regional competitions and create an environment conducive to showcasing Syrian sports on a global stage.
During the call, Wardah shared his journey since defecting from the regime’s Police Sports Club, seeking refuge in Jordan and then Germany. He spoke about his return to boxing, his participation in various tournaments in Germany and locally, and the awards he has won.
Wardeh reaffirmed his commitment to representing the Syrian revolution and consistently raising the flag of the Syrian revolution in sports forums to promote the cause of the Syrian people and their struggle against the Assad regime. He also expressed his readiness to support any free Syrian sporting initiatives that involve Syrian athletes who refuse to participate in tournaments under the regime’s umbrella.
