The Political Committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held its regular meeting on Thursday, during which it reviewed the work plan of the External Relations Department for the coming three months.
The plan focused on key areas, including the issue of Syrian refugees, particularly in Lebanon, where they face unjust practices and attempts at forced repatriation. It also emphasized the political process, aiming to activate the political track and implement international resolutions on Syria. Another focus was on humanitarian and relief aid, encouraging countries to fulfill their commitments, alongside discussions on the Syrian Recovery Trust Fund and accountability and justice.
SOC’s Vice President, Abdul Majeed Barakat, highlighted the decline in humanitarian aid to the liberated areas and its severe impact on various sectors, especially the healthcare sector.
The situation of Syrian refugees stranded in Libya was also discussed, particularly in light of recent reports on arrests, mistreatment, and fraudulent schemes targeting refugees attempting to reach Europe.
The meeting included input from Ismat Al-Absi, head of the Daraa Provincial Council, who provided an overview of the challenges facing Syrian refugees in Libya. Attendees reviewed several proposals and solutions to address these issues and provide assistance.
