The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, held the Assad regime responsible for the Israeli occupation’s bombing of various Syrian areas, including the capital, Damascus.
Rahma stated on Wednesday, “The Assad regime uses civilians as human shields and allows Iranian militias to station themselves in residential buildings and civilian areas.”
He added, “These tactics by the Assad regime make it jointly responsible with the Israeli occupation for the bombing of Syrian areas.”
Rahmeh highlighted that after the Assad regime destroyed Syria with the support of its allies, using various deadly weapons in its war against Syrians, it is now exposing other parts of Syria to bombing and destruction. He emphasized that the Assad regime’s primary goal is the survival of its leadership and its hold on power, rather than for the good for Syria and its people.
It is worth noting that the Israeli occupation bombed the Mazzeh district of Damascus last Monday, with estimates indicating over 150 Israeli strikes on Syrian territory since October 7, 2023.
