The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi al-Bahra, visited the Anadolu Platform in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Wednesday. During the visit, he discussed with the platform’s officials various humanitarian and legal issues related to Syrian refugees and displaced people in the liberated areas. The meeting was attended by the coordinator of the Working Group on Refugees and Displaced Persons, Ahmad Baccora, and the supervisor of the Organizations Working Group, Firas Al-Masri.
Al-Bahra expressed his gratitude to the Anadolu Platform team for their humanitarian efforts and services provided to Syrians in both the liberated areas and in Turkiye, whether in the humanitarian and educational sectors or through their valuable legal assistance to Syrian refugees in Türkiye.
During the visit, participants emphasized the need to strengthen communication channels between the SOC and the platform. They also highlighted the importance of joint efforts to improve the situation of Syrians and alleviate the burdens they face amidst numerous challenges and difficulties.
Al-Bahra reiterated that major humanitarian crises, including the refugee crisis, cannot be resolved sustainably without addressing the root cause, which is political. He emphasized that it is impossible to convince refugees to voluntarily return safely and with dignity in the absence of a safe and neutral environment in Syria, which can only be achieved through the implementation of international resolutions on Syria, particularly Resolutions 2254 (2015) and 2118 (2013).
