The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) and the Syrian National Olympic Committee have extended invitations to 46 international sports bodies to attend the Peace and Spring Marathon, scheduled for April 27th in the town of Afrin in the Aleppo countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SOC emphasized in its announcement its aim to activate sports activities in the liberated areas through the Syrian National Olympic Committee, enabling all members of society to engage in physical activities by organizing sports programs and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting that the Peace and Spring Marathon in Afrin is one of these activities, the SOC noted it as the region's inaugural event, featuring a 10 km race suitable for individuals of all ages and physical fitness levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) expresses profound sorrow at the passing of Syrian astronaut, Major General Muhammad Ahmed Fares, who breathed his last today in T\u00fcrkiye following a prolonged illness. Born in Aleppo province in 1951, Major General Fares leaves behind an indelible legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major General Fares earned a place in the hearts of Syrians as the first Syrian astronaut to journey into space in 1987, becoming the second Arab to achieve this milestone. During his space missions, he conducted numerous scientific experiments spanning industrial, geological, chemical, and medical disciplines, as well as space monitoring and sensing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a courageous move, Major General Fares aligned himself with the Syrian revolution, defecting from the Assad regime in 2012. His unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom and democracy endeared him to the Syrian people, who elevated him to the status of a national icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passing of Muhammad Fares represents an irreplaceable loss for the Syrian people and the Arab world. His enduring legacy and groundbreaking achievements will continue to inspire future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) convened its regular meeting on Thursday to discuss the latest developments on the ground and in the political landscape, with a particular focus on the violations faced by Syrian refugees in various countries, notably recent events in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the session, SOC President Hadi Al-Bahra provided an update on the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, highlighting the incitement campaigns targeting them. He also addressed the challenges confronting Syrian refugees in Iraq, including deportations, while outlining the SOC's efforts and ongoing communications with international bodies to ensure the protection and safety of Syrian refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SOC), Badr Jamous, briefed attendees on the Commission's activities and preparations for the upcoming Brussels donors conference. He expressed reservations regarding the proposed mechanism for establishing an Early Recovery Fund for Syria and the location of its headquarters. Additionally, Jamous discussed the latest developments concerning the scheduling of a new round of Constitutional Committee meetings and the regime's continued obstructionism in evading commitments outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee also received updates on the adoption of the Captagon 2 bill by the US House of Representatives, underscoring its significance in combating drug trafficking and disrupting the sources of funding used by the Assad regime to finance its war against the Syrian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, presentations were delivered by SOC representatives and offices in Germany, France, Jordan, Italy, Egypt, as well as the Turkish provinces of Hatay and Gaziantep, detailing their respective activities. The SOC denounces the restrictions imposed by Cypriot authorities on Syrian asylum seekers, notably the prevention of fragile boats lacking safety equipment, carrying dozens of Syrian asylum seekers, from entering Cypriot territory. These individuals were forced to leave Lebanon due to life-threatening risks, violations, security unrest, and discriminatory policies, facing the threat of forced return to Syria from which they fled to escape persecution and seek safety and dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
