The Syrian Coalition condemns the appalling act of the targeting of humanitarian organizations, providing relief and aid, just as we condemn attacks on innocent civilians. The vicious shelling of The Syrian Red Crescent has lead to the loss of innocent life and has also disrupted the humanitarian work of the organization. Such attacks will force The Syrian Red Crescent to halt much needed relief operations, as the Assad regime continues its aggressions against the people.
The Syrian Coalition expresses deep regret for every life lost due the regime’s criminal violence. We refer with special attention to yesterday’s incident of the regime firing mortar shells at one of The Syrian Red Crescent’s warehouses in Aleppo. This vicious attack killed one person, an employee, and badly injured others.
The Syrian Coalition finds it important to note that The Syrian Red Crescent workers wear widely recognized uniforms that serve to distinguish them as relief workers. All parties must protect relief workers, as they play a crucial role of assisting civilians in times of war and distress.
By shelling the organization’s warehouse, the Assad regime breached, as it has on many occasions, basic human rights and contravened international laws; and it must be held accountable for these violations.
The Syrian Coalition calls once again upon the international community to assume its humanitarian and political responsibilities and to take immediate action towards restraining the criminal Assad regime, stopping the daily massacres, and supporting the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity, and justice.
We ask God for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our prisoners.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
