The Syrian Coalition condemns the appalling massacre by regime forces against civilians at the Kammouna IDP camp in rural Idlib. Multiple airstrikes by regime forces hit the camp on Thursday afternoon, killing nearly 30 civilians, including women and children. Tents in the camp burnt to ashes, leaving many families out in the open without shelter.
The Syrian Coalition condemns the international community’s silence, which represents direct complicity in Assad’s war against civilians in Syria as it has been interpreted by the regime as a green light to kill more and more Syrians.
The Syrian Coalition emphasizes that the bombing of the Kammouna camp, which took place shortly after the UN Security Council had condemned the Assad regime’s ongoing massacres in Aleppo, represents a blatant violation of all international conventions and UN resolutions.
Such a cowardly act clearly demonstrates that there cannot be any talk about a political process whilst the Assad regime and its allies carry on with their crimes against the Syrian people. It also provides further proof that the Assad regime is not a serious partner in the political process, but rather a criminal clique pursuing a policy of state terrorism.
The Syrian Coalition offers the most sincere condolences to the families of the victims. It highly praises the Syrian people’s steadfastness in such extremely difficult times.
The Syrian Coalition deplores the fact that no international organization has so far proved true to its principles and assumed their responsibilities to protect the Syrian people from the most egregious war crimes and crimes against humanity in our modern times.
