On the occasion of Easter, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extends its sincere congratulations to Syrian Christians and to all those celebrating this occasion, wishing that peace, tolerance and security prevail in all parts of the world.
Christians are one of the main components of the Syrian people as they form the second largest religious group. Like the rest of the Syrian people, they have suffered violations and crimes at the hands of the Assad regime throughout its rule.
The policies that the murderous Assad regime has pursued are specifically designed to displace as many Syrians as possible. These policies did not spare Christians as many have been subjected to forced displacement and alienation through harassment, intimidation, and blackmail, especially against those who support the revolution.
The SOC emphasizes the importance of the role being played by Christians in the Syrian Revolution through their participation in popular demonstrations at the beginning of the revolution, and their activity in political action against the Assad regime.
The Assad regime has always sought to sow divisions among Syrians by differentiating between ethnicities, sects and religions. We affirm our keenness on cohesion and solidarity among all components of the Syrian people as confronting the Assad regime and building a new Syria requires the efforts of all Syrians.
We renew our best wishes for all the people of Syria as we wish they show more cohesion and cooperation to carry out their duties and seek to regain their basic rights, release the detainees, ensure the return the displaced, and lay the groundwork for a future that fulfills the aspirations of all the Syrian people.
