Media Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
July 15, 2013
The Syrian Coalition urges the Egyptian interim government to ensure the safety and security of the Syrian people living in Egypt. We are confident that the government of Egypt will assist the Syrians who were forced to leave their country in desperate conditions.
However, there are reports that various Egyptian media outlets are spreading hate against the Syrians living in Egypt. It is unacceptable that media personalities and broadcast channels adopt a policy of incitement against the Syrian people. It is a breach of the Press Charter and of the Human Rights Law.
The Syrian Coalition calls on Egyptian authorities to take this breach seriously and to ensure that Syrian people living in Egypt, under such dire circumstances, are not used to achieve certain political ends.
The Syrian Coalition joins Egyptian Human Rights Organizations in calling on the Egyptian interim government to encourage objective media broadcasting, and to hold those accountable who are committing crimes of inciting violence and hatred.
We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
