The continued attacks and escalation by the Assad regime, Russia and Iran on rural Idlib and Aleppo, as well as the developments over the past weeks have exposed malicious intentions to escalate the situation in very dangerous directions.
The continued killing of the Syrian people for ten years by a criminal regime and rogue regimes must not be regarded as a new norm. It requires the international community to take action and stop showing total inaction and indifference.
Eight civilians were killed today, including a family of a father, mother and three children, as a result of shelling with guided missiles in the town of Iblin and neighboring villages in Al-Zawiya Mountain region in Idlib province.
This same family lost 11 of its relatives in a similar attack a few days ago, which indicates that the attacks are deliberate and aimed at increasing the suffering of civilians and forcing tens of thousands of them to flee their homes.
The latest massacres and developments require a real and urgent international response. All regional, Arab and international parties are required to take serious action to stop the crimes being committed by the regime and its allies.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) calls on the United Nations, the international community and its major actors to start establishing mechanisms for holding accountable this criminal regime and its allies for the crimes they have been committing for over ten years, especially the use of chemical weapons.
