We welcome the European Union’s new sanctions on the Assad regime. Today, the EU, for the purpose of sanctions, designated individuals and entities linked to the regime, and imposed a ban on jet fuel exported to Syria.
While the new sanctions could limit the regime’s air force capabilities, more is needed to put an end to the regime’s air strikes, which kill scores of innocent civilians on a daily basis in Syria and cause massive destruction to residential areas. The Assad regime must understand that actions have consequences and that justice will be served.
