We welcome the final communiqué agreed by the Friends of Syria “London 11” core group at their meeting in London on November 10th, 2014. The “London 11” reiterated their support for mainstream opposition, led by the Syrian Coalition, in the fight against both ISIS and the regime. It condemns the Assad regime’s air campaign and its recent attempts to subject Aleppo’s people to a protracted siege accompanied by a systematic starvation campaign.
We remain committed to a political solution regarding the conflict in Syria, and we will need all the support the Friends of the Syria can provide to achieving that goal. Any plans to end the bloodshed in Syria must include a comprehensive strategy to bring about a political settlement starting with the establishment of a transitional governing body, as was clearly stated in the internationally endorsed Geneva Communiqué of 2012.
