Press Statement
Salem Al Meslet
Syrian Coalition Spokesperson
April 14, 2015
Following an enquiry conducted by Human Rights Watch showing the Assad regime using noxious gas in Idlib on at least 6 occasions between March 16 and 31, 2015, Spokesperson Salem Al Meslet of the Syrian Coalition said:
“Today, another piece is added to a long list of incontrovertible evidence that Assad is using chlorine as a weapon of war against civilians, and in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions 2118 (2013), 2099 (2015). Once again the finger of blame points at Assad’s militias who are the only side in Syria with access to helicopters and are using them to drop infamous barrel bombs filled with poisonous gas.
“The OPCW Fact Finding Mission (FFM) must be allowed to gather more evidence but also, more crucially, to attribute responsibility for the attacks. The UN Security Council needs to take decisive action to prevent such heinous crimes against civilians in Syria.”
