Press Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
November 02, 2013
After nearly two years and eight months, the Assad regime continues to aggravate the humanitarian crisis in Syria to serve the interests of its regional as well as international allies. It strives to deceive the world into believing what is happening in Syria is a struggle for power; and that there are no rightful demands by the people of freedom, justice, and dignity.
More than 100.000 died martyrs. Millions of people had to leave their homes to live in deplorable conditions without access to the basics needs of survival. Hundreds of thousands of people are detained, missing, or injured. Assad’s forces lay siege to towns and cities across the country starving people to death.
The Assad regime deliberately created and sustained the humanitarian crisis in Syria. Guided by its allies, it is using this very crisis as a weapon of war against innocent civilians. The actual politicization of the humanitarian situation happens when the Assad regime aggravate the humanitarian situation, create a crisis, and then starve people to death in order to force them to renounce their legitimate rights of freedom and justice for which they have been calling since March 2011.
The Syrian Coalition calls on the whole world to help alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people through all means possible. To offer a real solution to the Syrian crisis, it is vital that international actors acknowledge the Syrian people’s rightful demands of living free and with dignity.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
