Press Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
September 21, 2013
President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, stated on September 19th, that his government is ready to “facilitate dialogue” between the Assad regime and the Syrian Coalition in order to reach a political solution to “the Syrian crisis.”
The Syrian Coalition finds it absurd that Iran proposes an offer to facilitate dialogue while at the same time it continues to provide political, economic, and military support to the Assad regime.
If serious, the Iranian government would withdraw its military experts and extremist fighters from Syria before embarking on dialogue proposals. The Syrian Coalition sees Iran as part of the problem and the Iranian officials must be held accountable, alongside Assad regime officials. These two groups are fully responsible for the war crimes and all egregious crimes committed against the Syrian people.
There is no doubt that the latest Iranian offer is aimed at further complicating and perpetuating the situation in Syria. It is also a desperate attempt to divert attention from Iran’s nuclear program and Iran’s continued sponsoring of terrorism.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
