Assad regime jets hit the besieged district of Alwaer in Homs in the early hours of Saturday, targeting mainly residential areas. A number of civilians were killed and injured in the violent airstrikes that also caused massive destruction to civilian homes and property.
Regime Helicopters earlier on Saturday dropped barrel bombs on a funeral tent in the neighborhood of Almaadi in Aleppo, killing and injuring dozens of people, including women and children. Civilian casualties were also reported when Russian jets raided the town of Orim Alqubra west of Aleppo on Saturday. The deadly airstrikes on Aleppo and Alwaer district took place alongside relentless aerial and artillery bombardment on several areas in rural Damascus, Hama and Homs.
The Assad regime continues to pursue a policy of murder, displacement and destruction thinking that by carrying out more crimes against the Syrian people, it can break their will to achieve victory. The latest onslaught on Alwaer indicates that the Assad regime drew the wrong lessons from the district of Daraya which rebel fighters evacuated after demonstrating legendary resistance against the Assad regime despite a suffocating siege. The Assad regime, however, fails to learn that the heroism shown by Daraya against such extreme odds will only serve to bolster the determination, resolve and unity of the FSA and rebel fighters.
The Syrian Coalition underscores that the will of the Syrian people will not be broken despite the death and destruction caused by violent criminal attacks carried out by the Assad regime.
The international community, especially the European Union and the United States as well as friendly countries are required today more than ever to take action to stop attacks by the regime and its allies against civilians in Syria. Measures must be taken to pave the way for a political solution that puts an end to the suffering of the Syrian people and achieves their aspirations.
