As the free forces of the Syrian people accomplish one decisive political and military victory after another, the regime and its allies keep on launching lackluster and overdue political initiatives. The Iranian initiative represents one example of these desperate attempts to throw a lifeline to the inevitably sinking ship of the Assad regime.
After nearly two years since the beginning of the Syrian Revolution, one of the greatest revolutions for freedom in modern history, the Assad regime in Tehran still considers this Revolution just a political dispute between two parties, not knowing which one is the executioner and which one is the victim. The Iranian regime continues to offer proposals, which do not provide a real solution to stop the bloodshed in Syria, and do not recognize the right of the Syrian People to decide their destiny and choose the political regime they want, a free and democratic one.
The Iranian regime refuses to believe that what is happening in Syria is a revolution whose goal is liberation from the authoritarian and oppressive regime, and that this revolution is about to achieve complete victory. The Iranian regime also refuses to admit that supporting this falling regime only adds to the suffering and sacrifices of the Syrian people, and may delay their freedom from an unjust and oppressive regime. However, the Iranian regime will never be able to prevent the triumph of Syrians nor will it be able stop the ouster of the Assad regime.
The Iranian Initiative claims to care about the lives, unity, and independence of the Syrian people. If the intent of the Iranian regime was sincere in this regard, it would be able to contribute to the Syrian people to achieve their ultimate demands and interests. The Iranian regime can do this by ending its support to the Assad regime politically, militarily, and economically, and by pressuring the regime to leave as soon as possible.
The Iranian regime must seriously consider the future of relations between the Syrian and Iranian people, as the regime it supports is falling, and in the end, only Syria and the Syrian people will remain.
