On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the great Syrian Revolution, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extends its heartfelt salutations to our resilient people who continue to bravely oppose the Assad regime. We honor the revolutionary spirit of our citizens who, through their peaceful demonstrations, dismantled the structures of tyranny, oppression, and injustice with the resounding calls for freedom. The SOC commends the unwavering determination demonstrated by the Syrian people across all regions, despite the formidable challenges and harsh conditions they are facing.
As we mark this significant milestone, the SOC solemnly remembers the sacrifices of our fallen heroes who valiantly gave their lives in pursuit of freedom and dignity. We reflect on the tragic events following the Assad regime’s brutal response to peaceful protests, which escalated to include violent repression, arbitrary arrests, and the deployment of internationally banned weapons, including chemical weapons. Regrettably, the international community’s inadequate response and failure to uphold its obligations, as outlined in UN Resolutions 2254 (2015) and 2118 (2013), have perpetuated the suffering of the Syrian people.
Today, more than ever, the international community is called upon to earnestly address the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people and actively pursue a political resolution in accordance with UN resolutions. It is imperative to establish a democratic state founded on the principles of freedom, justice, equality, and the rule of law. The Assad regime’s destabilizing actions have plunged Syria into numerous crises, resulting in the largest humanitarian catastrophe, with millions of Syrians displaced and subjected to grave human rights violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The SOC emphasizes that a political solution, aligned with international resolutions, is the only sustainable path towards restoring Syria’s rightful place on the regional and global stage, thereby safeguarding regional and international security.
The Syrian people have transformed the anniversary of the revolution into a national commemoration, reaffirming their steadfast commitment to overthrow the Assad regime and realize the vision of a new Syria. This anniversary serves as a reminder of our unwavering resolve, renewing our dedication to the principles of freedom and dignity, and honoring the sacrifices of our people and fallen heroes. It symbolizes our collective pledge to usher in a new era for Syria.
May our fallen heroes rest in peace and detainees be free.
May the displaced and refugees return to their homes with dignity.
