Today marks the ninth anniversary of the horrible massacre that the Assad regime committed in the village of Rasm al-Nafl in southern rural Aleppo. According to local activists, at least 208 civilians were killed in this massacre, of whom 192 victims, including 27 children and 21 women, were documented by the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
The Rasm al-Nafl Massacre demonstrated the hatred and brutality of the Assad regime and its allies who butchered, burned and executed civilians, then dumped their bodies into a pit similar to the pit of Al-Tadamon Massacre. On that day, mothers watched their children being burned without being able to offer them any help. Regime forces then executed the mothers, committing one of the most heinous crime wars.
The genocidal Assad regime has long relied on repression, mass killings, and arrest of whoever opposed it and criticized its criminal behavior. The regime’s impunity encouraged it to commit more crimes against the Syrian people in various Syrian towns and villages with the help of sectarian militias and terrorist organizations.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stresses that the Assad regime has not changed its behavior over the past years and will not change it because it lives off terrorism. The regime’s survival in power poses a serious danger to the Syrian people, both in the liberated areas and in the areas under its controls. Therefore, holding the Assad regime accountable and putting in place a political transition in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 will serve all Syrians and pave the way for building a new Syria that is based on freedom, justice and human dignity.
