The Syrian Opposition Coalition was deeply shocked by the physical and sexual abuse a Syrian child in Lebanon has been subjected to recently. It stresses the need to urgently take legal action and hold the perpetrators accountable.
The Lebanese authorities must carry out their duties and assume their responsibilities in order to prevent the recurrence of such abuses; ensure the protection of refugees; and prevent any violations against them.
There is no denying the fact that the honorable Lebanese people stood by their Syrian brothers on several occasions. They repeatedly reaffirmed their categorical rejection of all of forms of abuse, violations, and incitement of hatred against Syrian refugees as they reaffirmed their rejection of the hate speech and racist rhetoric that some official bodies chose to condone.
It is imperative to provide the Syrian refugees in Lebanon with the necessary protection and safeguard their rights. The Lebanese authorities are required to carry out their duties and assume their responsibilities in this regard.
