We followed the disturbing images and reports related to the storming and torching of the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. Rioters on Friday stormed into the KDP’s headquarters, ransacked and torched them.
The KDP, headed by President Masoud Barzani, has stood by the Syrian revolution since day one.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) condemns this act which bears the hallmarks of the Iranian mullahs’ regime which clearly incited the attack.
The SOC warns of the dangers of continued silence over these acts as it stresses that silence is no longer acceptable and that it represents support for these acts which benefit the enemies of Iraq and target all peoples of the region.
Through incitement to violence and spreading chaos, the Iranian mullahs’ regime is seeking to target the Iraqi social fabric and sow discord amongst the Iraqi people at a time when everyone needs to unite ranks; serves Iraq; and puts differences aside.
Targeting political institutions is unacceptable under any excuse. Political disputes can only be resolved through ballot boxes and under the dome of Parliament, as well as in in accordance with the law.
