The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stresses that it did not hear of any new proposal for solution in Syria during the latest international tours and the meetings that its president, his deputies and the SOC’s representatives held with foreign officials, including US officials. The SOC is unaware of these allegations whatsoever, especially the recent allegations about a proposal for the formation of a joint government with the Assad regime.
The SOC stresses that it totally rejects any proposal that departs from the UN path for political solution through the UN Security Council resolutions and the Geneva Communique of 2012.
The SOC, as a revolutionary political institution that believes in the values and principles of freedom, dignity, democracy and good governance and aspires to achieve them, cannot be part of proposals of this kind.
The SOC once again reaffirms commitment to the Syrian Revolution. It will not endorse or be a partner in any initiative or proposal that deviates from the path set by the UN Security Council resolutions. We affirm that a political solution can only be achieved through the implementation of UN Resolution 2254 in all its provisions, including the establishment of a Transitional Governing Body with full powers without any role for Assad in it, a new constitution, and elections under the UN supervision.
