The Iranian terrorist militias brought in by the Assad regime continue to carry out violations against Syria and its people, the latest of which was the burning of the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque in Al-Jamiliya neighborhood in Aleppo city with purely sectarian motives that indicate the absolute hatred these militias harbor against Syria and its people.
The burning of the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, which is one of the oldest mosques in the city, constitutes a heinous crime against the identity of the Syrian people and the holy symbols of Muslims. The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) calls on all organizations of Muslim scholars to condemn this serious violation of the mosque.
The SOC points out that Iran’s atrocious crimes in Syria were not limited to burning and destruction only, but also includes seeking to change the religious beliefs of the people by offering them grants and incentives. Indeed, the entire Iranian regime’s project is based on spreading the ideology of sectarianism and hatred not only in Syria, but also in all countries of the region.
The SOC stresses the responsibility of the Assad regime for bringing the Iranian threat to Syria with the aim of killing and displacing the Syrian people and propping up the Assad regime. The regime’s areas have thus become hotbed for the Iranian sectarian militias which are seeking to expand their threat across the region through the spread of terrorism, sectarianism and illicit drugs.
The SOC calls on all the sisterly Arab states to show more caution of the danger of the Iranian project and assume a firm, clear stance towards the Iranian militias and the Assad regime in Syria. Action must be taken to protect the Syrian people and the peoples of the region as well as to push the political process in Syria forward so as to implement the international resolution 2254, which the Syrian people hope that it will be the beginning of the end of this long tragedy.
