Hundreds of thousands of displaced people are at risk of being left without shelter after hundreds of tents were damaged as a result of the rainstorm hitting northern Syria.
About 104 IDPs camps were damaged as a result of the torrential rain and bad weather conditions. More than 194 tents were damaged beyond repair in northern Syria, while at least 316 tents were partially damaged. The damage affected more than 3,742 households, according to humanitarian organizations operating in the area, amid fears of further worsening of the already tragic conditions. The Syrian Civil Defense confirmed that more than 500 households had to spend the night out in the open.
We call on the international and humanitarian organizations to take urgent action and provide the necessary assistance to the affected IDPs. We also we call for immediate, sufficient support from the international community and the friends of the Syrian people for these organizations to enable them to carry out their relief duties and repair the damage in the camps.
As we call for immediate intervention by organizations and states to provide the necessary assistance, a radical, permanent solution call only be reached through the return of the IDPs and refugees to their homes as well as saving the Syrian people from the murderous Assad regime and holding it accountable.
It is imperative that the international community, especially the major actors, assume their responsibilities with regard to relieving the Syrian people and supporting a political transition in the country in accordance with UN resolutions.
