The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) condemns the deadly attack carried out by the Assad regime and Iranian militias in the towns of al-Dahila and Jadid Bekkara in the Deir Ezzor countryside on Friday. The towns were shelled with heavy artillery, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 civilians, including children. The SOC also condemns the indiscriminate shelling by the PYD militia on the town of al-Boleil on the west bank of the Euphrates River, which resulted in the death of a woman and her child and left 8 civilians injured.
The SOC reaffirms its commitment to protecting civilians wherever they are. The ongoing international inaction in addressing human rights violations and war crimes in Syria allows the Assad regime and extremist and separatist militias to commit further atrocities against civilians.
The SOC reiterates its call to the international community to protect civilians and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and human rights violations committed by the regime, its supporters, and terrorist organizations. It emphasizes that the path to a solution in Syria lies in the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2118 (2013) and 2254 (2015) and in fulfilling the aspirations of Syrians for freedom, justice, democracy, and respect for human rights.
