The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) closely followed the Jeddah Security and Development Summit which brough together the US President and the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq. The SOC also took note of the statements reaffirming support for a political solution in Syria and putting an end to the terrible injustice that the Syrian people are subjected to, and the long suffering at the hands of the Assad regime and its allies.
The SOC stresses that ensuring international peace and security, which this summit aspires to, cannot happen as long as the Assad regime and the Russian occupation are there, let alone the dozens of Iranian militias that pose a grave threat to Syria, its future and the countries of the region.
The SOC calls for drawing a clear, time-specific UN roadmap to enforce political transition in Syria as any further procrastination will only worsen the suffering of the Syrian people. We also call for working seriously and collectively to remove the Assad regime and Iranian militias from Syria, and for actively seeking the return of Syria to its Arabic fold so as to contribute, along with its sisterly states, to the addressing of global and regional challenges and crises.
The SOC stresses that getting rid of the Assad regime and the Iranian militias will pave the way for resolving crises in the Arab region as the Iranian threat will not be limited to Syria and will affect other countries if it is not addressed in Syria.
