The Syrian Interim Government’s Ministry of Health on Thursday announced the detection of the first Covid-19 case in northwestern Syria. The Ministry is closely following the case and keeping up with the status of the patient.
The Ministry took the necessary measures with regards to the detected case. The patient is residing in Turkey and working in the medical sector inside Syria. He regularly enters Syria to do his job. The necessary measures were swiftly taken the moment he showed the symptoms of infection with Covid-19. His family and the people he met after entering Syria are being closely monitored to ascertain their health.
We call on everyone to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and medical authorities regarding social distancing and safety measures and to avoid coming close to meetings and gatherings.
Awareness raising campaigns helped clarify to everyone the risks of disease. Utmost care must be taken to continue to test suspected cases so as to avoid an outbreak of the disease.
The Ministry of Health is following up on the suspected cases. It is announcing the results of the tests with total transparency and will announce any possible positive results.
International institutions and health organizations are required to step up support for the region to help prevent an outbreak of the virus and ensure the delivery of necessary assistance.
