The puppet Assembly Council of the murderous Assad regime has recently come up with a callous attempt to politicize events that occurred at the beginning of the past century and which are related to the Armenians who once lived in the lands of the Ottoman Empire following the First World War.
Millions of documents and testimonies have confirmed the Assad regime’s responsibility for the most atrocious crimes and violations against the Syrian people. Reports by international organizations and independent investigation committees have also confirmed the Assad regime’s responsibility for various crimes and violations, including the use of chemical weapons, the commission of crimes against humanity such as torture, extrajudicial executions, mass forced displacement, widespread looting, and drug trafficking. It is a stark irony to see the puppet Assembly Council of the Assad regime commenting on past events. The Assad regime and its backers have the effrontery and enough moral blindness to act as preachers in the field of human rights even they are soaked from head to toe in the blood of our Syrian brothers and sisters.
We affirm our rejection of any politicization of this issue and all similar issues. We believe that reviewing the common history of the region and the world is the best way to draw lessons and avoid repeating the same mistakes. International law and international resolutions must remain the basis for resolving international disputes and crises. Historical issues must be left to the relevant institutions and committees to deal with in a credible manner by reviewing all available historical documents in the possession of all parties. We are confident that all peoples of the region will be satisfied with the results of this reviewing.
We will always stand with the oppressed everywhere as we demand justice for them and reject exploiting their suffering and pain for narrow calculations and interests. We are also confident that all peoples stand by us in these demands and that history will judge this regime for its ruthless crimes against humanity.
