Syrian Opposition Coalition

Within the framework of the meetings that took place in Marrakesh in the Kingdom of Morocco nine years ago, more than 120 states announced their recognition of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) as the “legitimate representative of the Syrian people.”
The circumstances that necessitated the holding of that big meeting and the participation of those states in order to support the Syrian people, strip the criminal Assad regime of legitimacy, and tale the decision to recognize the SOC as the representative of the Syrian people are not only there, but also increased and multiplied.
However, the importance and necessity of the decision was not sufficiently reflected on the ground. Indeed, the Syrian issue did not receive the necessary international support to reach a political solution or to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Syria.
It is very important to recalling the decision, positions and promises made by many states to the Syrian people, especially with regard to the warning they issued of seriously responding to any possible use of chemical or biological weapons.
All states, especially the major international actors, are required to fulfill their promises and assume their responsibilities towards this file. It is absolutely unacceptable for any other party to continue to ignore the Assad regime’s criminal and terrorist record under any pretext or circumstances, or to try to rehabilitate the regime and normalize relations with it.
Attempts to restore relations with a regime that committed war crimes and massacres as well as used chemical weapons constitute a partnership in the crime and circumvention of UN resolutions.
