The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) expresses its appreciation for the impartiality and credibility of the report released by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The report conclusively refutes the baseless allegations made by the Assad regime regarding the use of chemical weapons by the forces of the revolution in the village of Al-Masasneh in rural Hama.
It is evident from previous OPCW reports that the Assad regime and its allies pose a real threat to international peace and security. The Assad regime has been found responsible for chemical weapons attacks in Al-Lataminah, Douma, Saraqib, and Khan Shaykhun. These attacks have resulted in numerous massacres and the deaths and suffocation of thousands of innocent people in the affected areas.
The SOC emphasizes that the existence of concrete information and evidence regarding these crimes, particularly those involving chemical weapons, places the international community and international organizations under the responsibility to seek justice for the victims. It calls for a concerted and effective effort at the global level to implement UN Resolution 2118 and take necessary measures under Chapter VII, given the Assad regime’s persistent failure to comply and its continued use of chemical weapons despite the issuance of the resolution.
